Baatz obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University in 1942, and his Licentiate in Philosophy degree there a year later. In addition, he earned his doctoral degree at Fordham University in 1946.
Beginning a teaching career as an associate headmaster for Oratory School in Summit, New Jersey, in 1945, Baatz then moved to Seton Hall University, serving as a professor of psychology from 1949 to 1962. Also he was an adjunct professor at Fordham University, for 9 years from 1951.
His first book, the anthology Philosophy of Education: A Guide to Information Sources, was published in 1980 by Gale Research; his second, The Psychological Foundations of Education: A Guide to Information Sources, edited with his wife, Olga K. Baatz, was issued by Gale a year later. He planned a third book on education, but it was never completed.
Baatz belonged to numerous professional organizations, including the World Youth Vocational Education Association, the American Catholic Philosophical Association, and Kappa Delta Pi.
