Charles was educated in Chicago, United States. He studied architecture at a college in Illinois which later became the State University in Normal, Illinois, United States.
On the erection of the U. S. Marine Hospital' at Cairo, Egypt Mr. Brush was appointed Superintendent of Construction and retained his office in Chicago until the completion of the building. Later Charles was commissioned to prepare plans for an addition to the Southern Illinois Penitentiary at Chester. During the remainder of his life, Mr. Brush continued the practice in Chicago except for an interim of five years from 1885 to 90 when he worked in Kansas City.
