Career
He began the war as a private with the 12th New York State Militia and later as a first lieutenant and adjutant with the 4th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry. He is probably best remembered as an assistant adjutant-general and lieutenant colonel for Brigadier General Adelbert Ames. He received his appointment as brevet brigadier general dated to March 13, 1865.
