Joined the 2nd Royal Bombay Fusiliers, 1868. Captain, 1879; Major, 1888. Lieutenant-Colonel 1895.
Brevet Colonel 1899; commander 2nd Royal Dublin Fusiliers up to relief of Ladysmith. Promoted to command of 4th Brigade, 1900. Advanced with Sir Redvers Buller’s force to Standerton, and from there with Lieutenant-General Clery to Vlakfontein Nek.
And on 28 July 1900 was sent with brigade to Heidelberg, and was in command of Heidelberg district to 27 March 1902. Boer war, 1899-1902 (despatches 3 times). Reverted to Colonel and placed on half-pay 27 March 1902.
Commanded 102nd Regiment Diet., Naas, 1903. Brigade-General commanding North Irish Regimental Grouped Districts, 1905. Granted lion, rank of Major-General on retirement, 1906.
Colonel of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, 1910. Reci'cations: fond of all sports. B. 1900; retired 1906.
