Became interested in autoinobilism through being proprietor of Industries and Iron, which, through successive amalgamations with Iron and the Mechanics’ Magazine (founded 1823), 438 contains the complete history of the automobile movement. On the occasion of the first and historic automobile run to Brighton in 1896, a special number of Industries and Iron was published, which gave the public renewed interest in the long history of the motor-car. Organised the first display of motor-cars made at the Agricultural Hall, London, in May 1896.
Started The Motor-Car Journal, 1899. One of the founder members of the Automobile Club of Great Britain and Ireland.
