Career
Drain ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature for the first time in the 1967 Alberta general election. Drain ran for a second term in office in the 1971 Alberta general election. He slightly improved his margin of victory defeating two other candidates and holding his seat despite his party losing government in that election.
Drain ran for re-election for the third time in the 1975 Alberta general election.
He would see his popular vote collapse and get defeated by Progressive Conservative candidate Fred Bradley finishing second place out of four candidates.
