Ella was born and educated in Cobourg, Ontario. After Sir John A. Macdonald"s death, Mistress Harriss purchased and occupied "Earnscliffe," a Victoria Manor house which had been his former place of residence at Ottawa, Ontario.
She served as President of the Woman"s Morning Music Club, and other official positions of that character.
