Mr. Haire moved to Pocatello. Idaho, in 1885, and for a few years was employed as draftsman in the Union Pacific Railway office. After working for a later period in Butte with the Great Northern Railroad, the young man established a home and office in Helena.
In partnership with John C. Link he was connected with the design of a number of public structures and business buildings in Montana cities, including the wings of the State Capitol built between 1909 and 1912: Algeria Temple; the Scottish Rite Temple, the Montana Life Insurance Building in Helena, and at Billings the Great Northern Hotel: also buildings on the campus of the State University in Missoula. Link & Haire were architects of hospitals at Boulder, Warmsprings and other locations, and at different periods maintained branch offices. In those at Butte, Billings and Missoula many of the younger architects of the state received their training under Mr. Haire’s inspiring direction. In addition to work designed by the firm Mr. Haire was associated with George Carsley on the Consistory Temple and the Shrine Mosque in Helena.
