He was educated at Harrow School.
He acts as deputy to Ian Dudson, Queen Elizabeth"s Lord Lieutenant in the County of Stafford, and is involved either as a patron or as honorary president with a number of charitable bodies, including being president of the Staffordshire Historic Churches Trust, and the patron of 10 Livings. As a keen huntsman and fly-fisher, Lord Shrewsbury is president of the Gun Trade Association and deputy-chairman of the Standing Conference on Country Sports, as well as being a former president of the British Shooting Sports Council. He is also a liveryman of several London livery companies, namely the companies of weavers, gunmakers, and blacksmiths.
Lord Shrewsbury has divested himself of many Manorial Titles by the "sale of titles" to third parties through auction houses, though he retains all rights pertaining to those titles.
He promotes British industry and commerce in the United States, and specializes in the sporting guns trade. On 5 January 1973, the Earl of Shrewsbury married Deborah Jane Hutchinson, daughter of Noel Staughton Hutchinson and Jennifer Hutchinson of Ellerton, Shropshire.
They have three children:

Lord Shrewsbury and his family live near Ashbourne in Derbyshire - but the house is a few yards into Staffordshire. Lady Shrewsbury was High Sheriff of Staffordshire in 2000.
Political Lord Shrewsbury is one of the 92 hereditary peers elected to sit in the House of Lords, and is also a whip for the Conservative and Unionist Party.
He is a member of the Army & Navy Club and Pratt"s Club.
