Lieutenant, 3rd Infantry, H. C., 1888. Exchanged to 1st Lancers, H.C., 1891 (20tli Deccan Horse). War Services: Tirah, 1897-1898, capture Sampagha Pass, capture Arhanga Pass, reconnaissance Sar-an-Sar and action 9 November 1897, operations against Khani Khel Chamkanis.
North-West Frontier; Mohmand expedition. Samana (medal with 3 clasps, despatches twice, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order). South Africa, 1900 (medal with clasp). Companion of the Distinguished Service Order 1898; 20th Deccan Horse, Indian Army.
