He supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War. He was disabled from sitting in 1644. He went into exile with his father, and returned to England in 1659.
Viscount Mansfield died at the age of 32.
Viscount Mansfield married Elizabeth Rogers, daughter of Richard Rogers and Anne Cheek.
