Charles Melton was born on January 4, 1991, in Juneau, Alaska, and was raised in Manhattan, Kansas. His mother, Sukyong, is Korean. His father, Philip, is from a family with deep roots in North Carolina and is mainly of British descent. He has a sister, Tammie Melton, who is already married and also has a 5-year-old son named Sean.

Education

Charles Melton gained admission into Kansas State University, where for two years, he was part of the football team (Division 1), his passion for entertainment made him abandon his academics and as fate would have it, he was discovered at the Applause Rising Talent Showcase (ARTS) in Orlando, Florida.

Career

In 2012 during the New York Fashion Week, Melton made his modeling debut walking for Park & Ronen and VLOVNew. Since then, he has participated in the Dolce & Gabbana lookbook and has also been featured on the cover of Prestige magazine.

Charles Melton made his acting debut in the season 5 and episode 14 (New New York) of the TV show, Glee (2014) as a male model. His television credits include American Horror Story: Hotel (2011) where he played the short role of Mr. Wu.

Melton's big break came when he was cast in the CW series Riverdale as Reggie Mantle in season 2 (he replaced Ross Butler, who had left the show). After recurring on season 2, Melton officially became a series regular on Riverdale starting season 3. In 2018, he was cast as the male lead, Daniel Bae, in The Sun Is Also a Star, the film adaptation of the book of the same name by Nicola Yoon.

Melton appeared in two music videos: JoJo's Save My Soul (2016) and Ariana Grande's Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored (2019).
