Studied at public schools, Nelson and Wellington, in which was pupil - teacher for four years. Subsequently engaged in mercantile pursuits. Holds master mariner’s certificate.
Career
Member of House of Representatives for Waimea, Picton, district of Marlborough, 1890. Waimea, Sounds, 1893. Wairau since 1896; Chairman of Public Petitions Committee.
Government Whip, 1893- 1900. Member of the Seddon Ministry, 1900-1906. Member of Hall-Jones Government until the Ward Ministry was formed, when he retired. Member of Legislative Council since 1909.
