Member of House of Representatives for Waimea, Picton, district of Marlborough, 1890. Waimea, Sounds, 1893. Wairau since 1896; Chairman of Public Petitions Committee.
Government Whip, 1893- 1900. Member of the Seddon Ministry, 1900-1906. Member of Hall-Jones Government until the Ward Ministry was formed, when he retired. Member of Legislative Council since 1909.
