Educated locally, then at St Joseph’s College, Roma. In 1938 he gained his Icacher’s certificate at Mariazell in the Transvaal, South Africa, and stayed on to matriculate at Inkamana High School.
Continuing his studies while teaching at Eagle’s Peak College, Qacha’s Nek School, and Inkamana High School he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in !944. He gave up teaching in 1951 to study law at Cape Town University where he graduated LLB in December 1954.
Minister of Development, Commerce and Industry 1965-1967. High Commissioner in Kenya and Roving Ambassador in Africa 1968-1969. Minister of Health, Education and Social Welfare 1971-1974, of Justice 1974-1975, of Foreign Affairs 1975-1981, 1982-1983, of Information and Broadcasting 1981-1983.

An eagle-eyed figure, bald with a small moustache, he is a close associate of Chief Jonathan and trusted manager of his political campaigns. Tough tactician who can square his record for the law with a state of emergency which put his political rivals in prison in 1970.
