Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. He attended the University of California and after taking his Ph. B.
A native of Chicago, Norris worked as a journalist for some years before finding success as a novelist and playwright. In 1903 turned to journalism and fiction. From 1908 to 1915 he was art editor of the American Magazine. In 1914 he edited and published his brother Frank Norris's early manuscript Vandover and the Brute and wrote the pamphlet Frank Norris, 1870-1902: An Intimate Sketch. From 1915 to 1944 Norris wrote magazine stories, several dramas, and many of his major novels, such as The Amateur (1915), Salt (1917), Bread (1923), Zest (1933), and Flint (1944). These deal with such social problems as education, eugenics, and women in industry. He died in Palo Alto, California, July 25, 1945.
