Charles Pogue, Jr., has parlayed an early passion for the theater into a successful career as a screenwriter, specializing in horror and fantasy, often with a humorous touch. He has written such well-known works as modern adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes novels The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Sign of the Four, a remake of a 1940s-era film D.O.A, which became a starring vehicle for actors Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, and the third installment of the Psycho series based on the classic Alfred Hitchcock film of that name. Perhaps most notably, Pogue wrote the 1986 remake of The Fly, starring Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis, which contains the oft-quoted line, “Be afraid. Be very afraid.” He also wrote the screenplays for two fantasy films: Dragonheart and Kull the Conqueror.
In 1996 Pogue authored the screenplay for Dragonheart, a medieval beast epic with a parodistic tone. The wise-talking dragon, a special-effects creation, was modeled after actor Sean Connery and used Connery’s distinctive Scottish voice. This creature, named Draca, is the last dragon remaining in the land. Draca teams up with a once-noble knight-played by Dennis Quaid - to deceive the public: the two of them travel from town to town, pretending that the knight is killing the dragon, and taking the townsfolks' money. More seriously, the pair team up with other characters to defeat an evil king who was once a promising young prince.
In 1997 Pogue wrote a screenplay called Kull the Conqueror, based on some of the work of Robert E. Howard, the creator of Conan the Barbarian.
Pogue is also a renowned actor in the regional theater who has worked onstage with such stars as Charlton Heston, Jeremy Brett, Cyd Charisse, Martha Raye, and Deanna Dunagan.

"Every decision in Hollywood is made out of fear."
"Don't try to give somebody what they want. Please yourself. If you don't care about what you write, nobody else will."
