POLLARD, Charles was born on September 16, 1826. Youngest son of William Dutton Pollard, D.L. and Justice of the Peace of Kinturk, Castle Pollard, Company Westmeath, and Louisa Anne, daughter of Admiral Sir Thomas Pakenham, Knight Grand Cross of the Bath.
Education
Studied at Hall Place School, Bexley (since abolished). H.E.I. Company Military College, Addiscombe. Obtained Commission in Bengal Engineers, 1845.
On proceeding to India joined Bengal Sappers and Miners.
Career
Served with that corps during Punjaub Campaign, 1848-1849, including 1st and 2nd sieges of Multan, Battle of Gujerat and subsequent pursuit of the Sikhs and Afghans to Peshawur. Appointed to Public Works Department, 1849. And posted to Peshawur as Assistant Engineer.
Posted to Jhelum as Executive Engineer, 1851. Transferred to Lahore and Peshawur Road, 1855. Passed through several grades of Public Works Department (roads, buildings, Governor railways, tele graphs, etc.) until made Chief Engineer, Punjaub, 1879, which held till retirement in 1883. R.E.
