Studied at Beccles Grammar School. And at Reverend Henry Mackaness, Ash, nr. Sandwich, Kent. Theatre Royal, Brighton, 1867.
Theatres Royal, Dublin and Edinburgh, 1868-1869 and 1870. First appeared in London at Globe Theatre 1871, under management of H. J. Montague, in Partners for Life.
Afterwards created the parts of King William in Clancarty, Chevalier in Two Orphans, Charles in Our Boys, which he played 600 nights. Captain Bradford in Peril at the old Prince of Wales’s Theatre. Allen Villiers in Red Lamp.
Judge Brach in Hedda Gabler. And Paillard in A Night Out at Vaudeville Theatre. Actor.
Very fond of shooting. Owned racehorses in 1879. Has wonderful collection of birds’ eggs, all gathered by himself.
Famous sprint runner in 1870. Won L.A.C. hundred yards challenge cup and beat Roland Upcher in 200 and 100 yards races, winning the former in 21 seconds, the latter in 10£ seconds.
