(The high recommendation of Charles Spurgeon for any of C....)
The high recommendation of Charles Spurgeon for any of C. J. Vaughan's works is sufficient in and of itself for obtaining and using it. He wrote of this commentary: "Deservedly esteemed. Dr. Vaughan gives a literal translation of his text from the original Greek, and then expounds it, believing it, as he says, 'to be the duty of every Christian teacher to assist his congregation in drinking, not of the stream only, but at the spring of revealed truth.'" (COMMENTING AND COMMENTARIES.) Vaughan was a prominent Church of England minister and pastor as well as an eminent educator, a "master teacher". As well as pastor at Doncaster, he also served as headmaster of Harrow school, master of the Temple, dean of Llandaff, Wales, and president of the University of Cardiff. He "had wide influence as a preacher and leader of the Broad Church party of the Anglican Church." His work of "preparing hundreds of university graduates for the ministry" was "a work that gave him greatest distinction." 124 pages.

(To ponder the Seven Words of the Cross is more certainly ...)
To ponder the Seven Words of the Cross is more certainly safe, more certainly salutary, than to dwell with microscopic curiosity upon the bodily sufferings. Descriptions of the scene may be too graphic. It is remarkable how brief, how delicate, how reticent are the Evangelists, in setting before us the particulars of the Passion. They seem almost to discourage too near a gazing. They seem to say, Draw not nigh hither, if thou comest only to behold the Man. The place where thou standest is holy veil thy face, and listen!

(This book was originally published prior to 1923, and rep...)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

(Excerpt from The Epistle to the Hebrews: With Notes In ...)
Excerpt from The Epistle to the Hebrews: With Notes In writing upon the Epistle to the Romans I claimed the position of an independent suggester. Without affecting an originality which can scarcely belong to any one, and the ambition of which has so often been the cankerworm of exegesis, I did profess an independent work and the exercise of an in dependent judgment, and I thought that in doing so I gave the only reason why I should write at all. The same independence I would assert once again, in offering to my readers this commentary upon an Epistle scarcely second in importance even to that. But there is one qualification. Common honesty requires its avowal. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in our edition. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.
