Fellow of Royal Geographical Society, and was awarded the Gill Memorial in 1890 for travels and exploration in Solomon Islands. Travelled and exjdored in Western Pacilic, particularly in Solomon Islands, 1882-1889. Acting Consul and Deputy Commissioner at Samoa, 1895.
Member of Hakluyt Society. Resident Commissioner, the British Solomon Islands, since 1896.
Club: Junior Constitutional.
Spouse 1889, Florence,daughter of late John Palmer of Bathurst, N. S. W. Two sons.
