Major June 25, 1906; lieutenant colonel, June 13, 1909. Colonel, November 3, 1914. Brigadier general, October 6, 1917.

Duty in Office Chief of Ordnance, Washington, 1896-1906. Chief ordnance offieer, Philippine Division, also commander Manila Ordnance Depot, 1906-1907. Commanded Watertown (Massachusetts) Arsenal, 1908-1917.

Assigned duty Office Chief of Ordnance, March 4, 1917. Appointed acting chief of ordnance, December 19, 1917. Chief ordnance officer American Expeditionary Force, April 1918.

Retired from army, September 3, 1919, to go into business. Now vice president Eaton, Crane & Pike Company, Pittsfield, Massachusetts Commander Legion of Honor (France). Companion Order of the Bath (England).
