Admitted to Kansas bar, 1869. City attorney and justice of the peace at Neosho Falls, Kansas. County attorney Coffey County, Kansas, 1876.

District judge, 5th Judicial District, 1881-1893. City attorney Emporia, Kansas, 1893. President of the board education, Emporia, 1893-1899.

Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Kansas, 1905-1911.
