Served as intern Cook County Hospital, Chicago, 1911-1912. Contract surgeon, United States Army, September-October, 1912. Medical Reserve Corps, October 1912-May 1913.

Commissioned First lieutenant Medical corpus, United States army, May 12, 1913, and advanced through the grades to brig. general, January 29, 1942. Served as lieutenant colonel, World War I. Chief of professional service, Surgeon General’ General’ s Office, War Department 1939-1944.

Commanding general Letterman General Hospital, San Francisco, 1944-1946. Retired 1947; consultant in community hospital planning, hospital design. Citations: Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster (army).

Commander Order of British Empire. Grand Official Order of Southern Cross (Brazil).
