Admitted to bar, 1858. Served Union Army, in Civil War, August, 1861-November, 1864, First lieutenant 5th New York Cavalry. Captain and Lieutenant-colonel (chief of staff, 4th Army Corps, General Keyes).
Lieutenant-colonel 3d New Jersey Cavalry, 1964. Counsel for United States Government before American Spanish Commission, 1882. Associate counsel United States Government before Court of Commissioners of Alabama Claims, 1882-1885.
