Successively edited Chelsea (Massachusetts) Herald, Lynn (Massachusetts) Reporter, Boston Sunday Leader, Erie (Pennsylvania) Dispatch and Providence (Rhode Island) Daily Herald.

On staff Boston Journal, 1870-1872. Associate editor Boston Globe, 1872-1874.

Assistant clerk House of Representatives, few months in 1874. Literature editor Boston Transcript, 1874-1901.
