Ordained to ministry Unitarian Church, 1834. Founder Warren Street Chapel (school and church for children), Boston, 1836. Financed greenhouse which eventually became Boston’s Public Gardens.
During Civil War his church used as recruiting center for Union Army.
Centered the attention of his church on underprivileged children in Boston, tried to feed and educate them.
Married Adeline M. Russell, May 1834. Married second, Sarah Holmes, January 1837.
