Studied at Boston Art Museum, 1882-1884. Pennsylvania Academy Fine Arts, 1885-1887, and at École des Beaux Arts under Gerôme and other masters, 1887-1890.
Foreign many years instructor and lecturer on history of art, Chicago The Art Institute of Chicago Edited Brush and Pencil, 1897-1900. Exhibited at Paris expns., 1889, 1900, Chicago Exposition, 1893, and the important current exhibitions. Assistant United States commissioner general fine art expns., Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Santiago, Chile, 1910.
Director United States section fine arts and member International Jury Awards Panama-Pacific Exposition, 1915.
Winner of Fine Arts Building Prize ($500), Chicago, 1908. A.N.A., 1913. Director Municipal Art League of Chicago.
