Served on Staff, South Africa, 1899-1900. Despatches twice; Adjutant 4th Battalion The King’s, 1901: Adjutant 13th Provisional Battalion, November 1901 to September 1902. Adjutant again of 2nd Battalion, September 1902 to February 1903.
Instructor Royal Marines College Sandhurst. Decorated for services in South Africa. Companion of the Distinguished Service Order 1900; (The King’s) Liverpool Regiment.
