Quarles is the son of Chester Leland Quarles and Dorothy Quarles.
Quarels received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Mississippi in 1986. Three years later he earned his Master of Divinity degree from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1995, Charles was given a Ph.D. from the same seminary.
Quarels began his career as a minister of youth at the First Baptist Church in 1985. A year later he took a position of a pastor at Concord Baptist Church. Then in 1990, Charles was appointed a pastor at Rossville Baptist Church. In 1994, he became a senior pastor at Hickory Ridge Baptist Church, where he served until 1996.
Quarels worked as an adjunct assistant professor at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary from 1992 to 1996. In 1996, he was appointed an assistant professor and an associate professor of New Testament and Greek in 1997 at Clear Creek Baptist Bible College. In 1998 Charles became a chairman of the Bible and Theology Department at the same college. In addition, in 1999, he held a position of a missionary of the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in Bucharest.
In 2002, he became an associate professor of New Testament and Greek at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Then in 2005, Charles was a vice president of Integration of Faith and Learning at Louisiana College, where he worked until 2013. The same years he worked as a dean of the Caskey School of Divinity and a research professor of New Testament and Greek at that college. Since 2013 Quarels has been a director of the Doctor of Philosophy Program and professor of New Testament and Biblical Theology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Also he has served on volunteer mission trips in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Russia and Kazakhstan.

Charles Quarels is married to Julie Caryl Chesser. They have three children.
