Began as draftsman in railroad office in Cincinnati, 1873. Assistant engineer Cincinnati Southern Railway, 1874-1878. Chief engineer Vice-President Keystone Bridge Company, Pittsburgh, 1878-1885, also construction engineering to Carnegie, Phipps & Limited company, and, as such, brought out and edited the company’s handbook for engineers and architects, designing new standard sections for steel beams and introducing Z-bar column.
Republican of Keystone Bridge Company and Carnegie firms in Chicago, 1885-1893, at the same time construction engineering, and taking a leading place in the development of skeleton steel construction for Chicago office buildings.
Designed large bridges over the Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio and other rivers. In independent business as contracting engineer, since 1893, incorporated, 1905, as Strobel Steel Construction Company.
Retired 1926. Home: Chicago, Illinois.
