Studied at private school. First studied art at Cope’s School and Saint John's Wood Art School.
Entered Royal Academy Schools at eighteen years of age, and gained medal (Creswick) for landscape. Exhibited at Resident Advisor and Salon, and most International Exhibitions. Paints portraits and subject pictures chiefly.
Among the former are included Mission Winifred Emery, his father, and J. Forbes Robertson.
Principal of the Saint John's Wood Art Schools, 1902-1910. Professor of Painting at London School of Artist. Head of King’s College School of Art for 1536 Women since 1910.
