Jeffs, Charles Richardson was born on January 20, 1893 in Brooklyn. Son of Charles Frederick and Eliza (Boulton) Jeffs.


Student Naval Academy Post Graduate School, 1926-1927. Master of Science, Columbia, 1928.


Entered United States Navy, 1911, commissioned ensign, 1918. and advanced through grades to commodore, United States Navy, 1946. Destroyer duty, United States Ship Cushing, World War I. Submarine service, 1922-1931.

Assistant engineer then engineer officer battleship California, 1933-1936. Machinery superintendent, Mare Island Navy Yard, 1933-1937. Yangtze patrol gunboats, 1938-1941.

Staff Naval War College, 1942-1943. Commanded United States Ship Appalachian, Guam, Leyte, Lingayen, 1944-1945. Deputy commander Naval Forces, Germany Land (State), Bremen, 1948-1949.

Retired as Rear Admiral, 1950. Land commissioner Bremen under High Commissioner and Department of State, since 1949.


Married Harriet Herring, April. Children: Charles R. (ensign United States Navy), Thomas Lee, Harriet Elizabeth.
