Farnsworth, Charles Stewart was born on October 29, 1862 in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Isaac Francis and Sarah (Moore) Farnsworth.

Education

Graduated from the United States Military Academy, 1887. Distinguished graduated from Army School of the Line and Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, 1909, 10. Graduated from Army War College, Washington, 1916.

Career

Commanding 159th Infantry Brig., Camp Lee, Virginia, 1917-1918, commanding 37th Division, Advertising Educational Foundation, 1918-1919, participating in occupation of the Baccarat (Vosges Mountains) and Panne (St. Mihiel) sectors and in the offensives in the Argonne-Meuse and Ypres and Lys. Commanding Camp Bowie, Texas, Infantry school and Camp Benning, Georgia, 1919-1920.
