Mackey, Charles William was born on November 19, 1842 in Franklin, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Charles W. and Julia Ann (Fagundus) Mackey.

Education

Educated in schools of Franklin. Learned printer’s trade and published a newspaper when a boy. Began study of law, 1860.

Served in “Venango Grays” (Company C, 10th Pennsylvania Reserve Vols.), 1861-1863, and took part in numerous battles from Dranesville to Gettysburg. Special agent United States Treasury for Eastern Virginia and North Carolina District, 1863-1865. Admitted to Pennsylvania bar, August 1865.
