Career
She is a native of Saint Louis, Missouri (Ladue Horton Watkins High School, class of 1993). Smith played in American Basketball League or American Basketball League and then the Women's National Basketball Association. Her brother Charles was her role model for basketball when she was growing up. After her years at Stanford, Smith played one year with the Portland Power in the American Basketball League. She would be signed by the Minnesota Lynx for the 1999 Women's National Basketball Association season.
In 2000 the Seattle Storm picked her up in the expansion draft, and she would play for the Storm for the 2000 and 2001 seasons.
She would play one more season in the Women's National Basketball Association for the Phoenix Mercury in 2003. Smith went overseas in 2003 to play for the Swedish team Solna Vikings before retiring from the sport as a player.
During her off seasons with the Women's National Basketball Association Smith would work as a production assistant and editor with National Basketball Association entertainment, as well as with the Seattle Storm Czech Republic office. Smith played her collegiate basketball for the Stanford University basketball program from 1993−1997.
Prior to joining the California Golden Bears in 2007, Smith served as the assistant coach of the Stanford University women"s basketball team from 2004 – 2007, as well as Boston College from 2003 – 2004.
Foreign the 2012−13 season, she was promoted to associate head coach by 2nd year head coach Lindsay Gottlieb, helping to lead a team with high expectations coming off a second round National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament appearance in 2011−12.
