Prior to playing professionally, he attended Fayetteville High School, where he was originally an outfielder but converted to pitching. He attended University of Arkansas - Fort Smith instead, before transferring to University of Central Arkansas.
Career
He was drafted Texas Rangers out of high school in the 34th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft but didn"t sign a contract. He was then taken by the Houston Astros in the 23rd round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft, two picks ahead of major league pitcher Chris Rusin, though he opted not to sign a contract again. He was offered a scholarship to University of Arkansas, but turned it down to attend Arizona State University—though he did not attend the latter school as they decreased their scholarship offer to him.
With Central Arkansas in 2010, he was 1-4 with a 8.36 European Research Area in 13 games (10 starts).
He pitched for the McKinney Marshals of the Texas Collegiate League that year and went 1-0 with a 0.00 European Research Area in six starts, striking out 12 batters in 10 innings. Discovered by Mets scout Max Semler, he was signed as a free agent on July 6, 2010.
With the Kingsport Mets in 2010, he was 0-1 with 13 strikeouts and a 4.09 European Research Area in 11 innings. In 2011, the hurler was 7-2 with a 1.82 European Research Area in 27 games (eight starts) for the Savannah Sand Gnats and in 84 innings, he had 91 strikeouts and only 61 hits allowed.
He made the South Atlantic League All-Star team
With the Saint Lucie Mets in 2012, he was 8-7 with a 4.10 European Research Area in 24 games (22 starts) and made the Florida State League All-Star squad. He led the team in wins, games started, innings pitched, strikeouts and batters faced. Huchingson played for the Mets briefly during the 2013 spring training.
He pitched for the Binghamton Mets that year and had a 1.61 European Research Area in 45 relief appearances, while averaging more than a strikeout per inning.
On August 26, he was suspended 50 games for violating baseball"s drug policy for the second time. He also spent time with the Aguilas del Zulia of the Venezuelan Winter League that year.
In 2014, he was 4-1 with a 3.82 European Research Area in 31 games between Saint Lucie and Binghamton. After making a couple appearances for the major league club in spring training, he began 2015 with Binghamton.
