Lin, Cherng-Yuan was born on August 20, 1961 in Chai-Yi, Taiwan. Son of Mao-Fa and Tsai-Yi Lin.

Associate professor National Taiwan Ocean University, Keelung, 1991—1996, chairman marine engineering department, 1998—2000, professor, since 1996, dean College Maritime Science and Management, 2005—2008, distinguished professor energy, since 2010.
