Born in Provo, Utah to Charles Verl Clark and Vivian Keller, Lant studied early childhood development at Brigham Young University and married John Glen Lant Junior. in the Salt Lake Temple on September 17, 1963.

The Lants are the parents of nine children and together they founded a large preschool and developed a phonics-based beginning reading program Lant chose Margaret South. Lifferth and Vicki F. Matsumori as her counselors. She was released at the church"s April 2010 general conference and succeeded by Rosemary M. Wixom.
