He graduated from Tokyo University.
He served as professor of Yamaguchi Higher School and became professor of Tokyo Higher Normal School. Resigned in connection with his article on Nietzsche which caused academic trouble.
He became reporter of the Yamato Shimbun (newspaper), and writer for the magazine Shin Shosetsu, and while advocating the ideology of Nietzsche, wrote a novel Arai Gami which praised the dilettanism based on instinct. Appointed professor of 2nd Higher School (1892) and stayed in Sendai City for 17 years. Retired (1927). Works: "Nietzsche and Poet" and many essays. Also edited "Great German-Japanese Dictionary".
