Chikuzen-no-Shojo Toyotake was a disciple of Mutsu-Shigedayil and a raincoat maker by profession.
Career
His first appearance was made in the Takemotoza Theater (1748) when it was owned by BunzaburO Yoshida, the puppet showman, but due to a quarrel with him he left to join the Toyotakeza Theater, under the stage name Toyotake- Konodayu. Within a period of one year he had established his reputation and was allowed to bear the title of Toyotake-Chiku-zen-no-Shojo Fujiwara. Regarded as a pioneer for reviving the Gidayu. After his retirement from the stage he devoted the rest of his life to guiding his disciples in the ancient art.
