Studied at Grammar School, East Grinstead.
Received first instruction in drawing and painting at the age of 13 from J. J. Jenkens, Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours. Came to London, 1873. Studied at St. Martin’s School of Art.
Also Heatherley’s and The Langham. First picture exhibited in London, 1875, at the Royal Society of British Artists. Since then has exhibited at Royal Academy, Royal Institute, and most of the provincial exhibitions.
Early style of work figure subjects of the Georgian period, later subjects modern pathetic, mostly in watercolour. Professor of Painting, Birkbeck Institute.
