He lived in Santiniketan. He was given the title of "Rabindra Tattwacharya" by the "Rabindra Sankriti Parishat", Kolkata for his lifelong works and contributions to the field of literature. Born in Chhatiain village of Srihatya of Assam/Bengal (present: Sylhet of Bangladesh), Deb underwent his primary education there in a school and came out second in the matriculation or the final school-leaving examination under the University of Calcutta.
Later at the only age of 17, he came to study at the Visva-Bharati University, in Santiniketan.
Literature Folk singer He was also a well known folk singer of Santiniketan. He sang old folk songs of some unknown artists and written by himself.
