Chogoro Sadojima was a Japanese kabuki actor. He became a Buddhist priest and resided in front of the Kenninji Temple in Kyoto, calling himself Renchibd. In his diary which he wrote after he became a priest, he recorded secrets of his art. The diary is called Sadojima Nikki. He devised many new things in kabuki dancing.
Background
Chogoro Sadojima was born in Japan, 1700. Chogoro Sadojima father, Dempachi Sadojima, was a famous clown in the Genroku Era who was also a good dancer. Chogoro was trained by his father from childhood and performed as early as the age of five.
Career
From the latter part of Shtoku Era (1711-1716), he played at Osaka and Kyoto theaters. Visited Edo twice. Was a good dancer and manager of the Kado and Nishi theaters in Osaka.
