Following graduation from Kyoto Municipal Arts and Crafts School became pupil of Insho Domoto (1921); studied at and graduated from Kyoto Municipal Art College (1924). Exhibited works at government-sponsored exhibitions and had his Shunkyu (The Hill in The Spring) and Fune Tsukuru SaJcyu (The Sand Hill Where a Boat Is Being Built) displayed respectively at 12th and 15th Teiten (1917 and 1920). During the war served in Central China and in the South Seas as member of press corps and drew many fine documentary pictures.
