He attended Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois where he played football for coach Andy Bitto.
He played college football for Notre Dame. During his senior season for the Corsairs he recorded 107 total tackles, 4 interceptions, 3 fumbles recovered, 5 forced fumbles, and 1 touchdown on a blocked punt. He was offered no scholarships out of high school.
Salvi first played for Butler, before transferring to Notre Dame.
He recorded 18 career tackles, and was teammates with brother Will on the team Salvi initially walked on to the Notre Dame football team, but for his final season as a 5th year senior, Salvi earned a scholarship.
Salvi went undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft, and attended the Chicago Bears rookie minicamp, but was not signed. Salvi was signed by the Torino Giaguari, in October 2013.
Salvi would play in the 2014 IFL season.
Salvi would re-sign with the Giaguari football team for the 2016 season. The Giaguari are a part of the Italian Football League first division. Salvi participated in the annual Notre Dame Bengal Bouts charity tournament in 2012.
