And the New York avante-garde Salsa band Zemog El Gallo Bueno. Stromquist was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and raised in Iowa City, Iowa. He attended Macalester College, where he studied Ghanaian percussion with Sowah Mensah and later studied Afro-Cuban Bata drumming with Regino Jimenez Saez in Havana, Cuba.
As well as extensive performing, touring and recording with the bands Kultur Shock and Slavic Soul Party!, Stromquist has worked frequently with Amy Denio, Jessica Lurie and The Tiptons Sax Quartet as well as with Brazilian pianist Jovino Santos-Neto He has often worked as a session musician in Seattle, Washington and New York City.
