This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. Originally Lange studied theology but later devoted his interests to history, and completed his studies at the University of Christiania (Oslo).
Career
After completion of his studies at the university he became a professor at the naval academy at Fredriksvern. In 1845 he joined the staff of the royal archives, where he remained until his death. His work Diplomatarium norvegicum (1842 - 1860) is indispensable to research in early Norwegian history. He also wrote De norske klostres historie i middelalderen (1847), and edited the Norsk forfatter lexicon (1814 - 1856), and the Norsk tidsskrift for videnskab og litteratur (1847 - 1852).
