Christie Albert Macaluso is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church.

Background

Christie Macaluso was born in Hartford, Connecticut, to Albert Carl and Helen (née Meaney) Macaluso. His father"s family was from Palermo, Sicily, and his mother was of Irish descent.

Education

Bachelor in Philosophy, St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore. Master in Sacred Theology, St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore. Master of Arts in Philosophy, Trinity University, Hartford.

Master of Arts in Psychology, New York University. Attended, New School for Social Research, New York City.

Career

He currently serves as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Hartford. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in philosophy from Trinity College, and a Master of Arts in Psychology from New York University. Macaluso was ordained to the priesthood on May 22, 1971.

He then served as assistant pastor at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hartford and at Saint Joseph Church in New Britain.

Macaluso later became a professor of philosophy at Saint Thomas Seminary, where he also served as academic dean (1980-1985) and rector (1985-1991). During this period, he was also a weekend assistant at Saint Francis Church in Torrington and Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield.

He was named pastor of the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in 1991 and, in addition, episcopal vicar for the Hartford Vicariate in 1995. He was also raised to the rank of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness in 1995.

On March 18, 1997, Macaluso was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Hartford and Titular Bishop of Grass Valley by Pope John Paul World War II He received his episcopal consecration on the following June 10 from Daniel Anthony Cronin, Archbishop of Hartford, with bishops Paul Loverde, Bishop of Ogdensburg and Peter A. Rosazza, Auxiliary Bishop of Hartford, serving as co-consecrators.

He selected as his episcopal motto: "Veritas Liberabit Vos", meaning, "The Truth Will Secretariat You Free" (John 8:32). As an auxiliary bishop, Macaluso serves as vicar general of the Archdiocese and moderator of the curia.
