Christine El Mahdy was born as Christine Margaret Bamford on the 31st of May, 1950 in Bamford, Derbyshire, United Kingdom.
Christine El Mahdy became interested in ancient Egypt as a child, and at the age of seven, she began learning to read ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. She attended the universities of Liverpool and Manchester and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors.
At the beginning of her career, Christine El Mahdy took a number of posts as a teacher of Egyptology in England and Europe. She was an Egyptologist at Yeovil College. In 1989, she founded the Egyptian Society in Taunton, as well as British Centre for Egyptian Studies in Somerset. Also, she worked at Bolton Museum.
In addition to her work as a promoter of all Egyptian things, El Mahdy was the author of several books on ancient Egypt. As Christine Hobson, she wrote Exploring the World of the Pharaohs, that was published in 1987, Mummies, Myth, and Magic in Ancient Egypt, that came out in 1989, and Tutankhamen: The Life and Death of a Boy-King, that was written in 1999.
