Christoph Bernhard

Background

Christoph was born in 1612, Gdansk, Pomorskie, Poland.

Education

He studied in Danzig (now Gdańsk) and in Warsaw. By the age of 20 he was studying at the electoral court in Dresden under Heinrich Schütz. The Elector sent him to study singing in Italy. Afterwards he became 2nd, and then 1st Kapellmeister at Dresden, succeeding Schütz.
